Paper and Stone Sculptures by Beth Meredith
Jizo (geezo) is a bodhisattva and an expression of deepest compassion. In Japan he is the protector of the vulnerable, especially women, children, and travelers.
Jizo means Womb of the Earth and conveys vastness, deepness, profundity, as well as patience and stillness.
I first encountered Jizos while living in Japan and was immediately attracted to their child-like qualities and sweet compassion.
May Jizo's beauty and compassion comfort and inspire you!
These sculptures are made of paper and stone along with papers I have made and collected while living in Asia.
