Feng Shui is the art and science of arrangement and energy (chi) that was originally developed in China. It can be applied to design at many levels: a desk top, a room, a house, or a town. There are different schools with different approaches, tools, practices, and spiritual components. Most important is to find a school or practitioner that resonates with you.
Even a basic understanding of the bagua, or energy diagram, can be useful as a way to organize and expand our thinking when arranging a space. Some of the basic principles found in many books are useful too, such as eliminating clutter and physically uncomfortable spaces. When we find we have a chronic problem in a space, or that it doesn't feel good, feng shui is often useful.
As for books, there are literally thousands books on this and the best way to choose one is to find one that is written in a way that makes sense to you. We find the books with case studies and simple diagrams of before and after particularly helpful.
